History of our
church
crossWinds began in 1997 as a vision driven church
plant of Calvary Evangelical Free Church. The youth pastor (Doug
Mathers, founding Sr. pastor) and other leaders of the church started
to develop a vision to use contemporary music, drama, multimedia, and
Bible teaching that was relevant to every day life.
This vision became a call to begin a church that would be able to reach
people far from God and help believers grow in devotion, service and
love. On September 7, 1997 crossWinds held its
first
public service at Willow Creek Middle School in southeast Rochester .
At that time crossWinds consisted of 60 committed adults and their 40
children.
The first services were attended by over 200 people and since then
weekend attendance has grown to over 400.
From the beginning, however, the goal is not to
become merely large church, but to be the church to each other and the
community.
Authentic relationships have always been stressed, with small groups
offering opportunities for people to develop spiritually while building
life-long friendships.
It is the conviction that God does not merely exist
but he is involved in this world and in our lives that motivates us to
continue to reach out and reach up.
We look forward to adding to the chapters of this history as God leads
us.
